Introversion (2024) is a self portrait series utilizing role play to explore ideas relating to introverted behavior, shut-ins, and loneliness. In these images, I perform for the camera in the role of a shut-in, exaggerating for the camera and also tapping into my own experiences with mental health, the internet, and escapism. These images investigate the type of behavior caused by circumstances in society and the internet, and are, in a way, informed by the COVID-19 pandemic. There are no windows in the space captured. This person is only captured on their bed and at their desk in a very interior mental space, but objects like the computer screen and the posters on the wall act as access points for exterior spaces. Additionally, the dark shadows and grainy texture contribute a moody and isolated energy. Introversion as a series looks to examine the ways in which isolation and escapism impacts people.
